at the Locanda al Castello!
This ancient castle has been the Monastery of the Jesuists for many years.
It was built at the beginning of 1800 and it is a copy af a castle which is situated in Israel. Since 1960 it is one of the best hotels of the region.
The Hotel Locanda Al Castello is located on a hill, just 1 km far the centre of Cividale. This is perfect place to enjoy a relaxing holiday.
The charming restaurant offers typical menus and a wide selection of wines.
In the comfortable double rooms, you can find quiet and silence. The bedrooms are equipped with telephone, minibar, television sat., safe and bath.
Guests can enjoy many facilities such as bar service, restaurant, TV room, reading room, breakfast and tea room, meeting room, solarium terrace, garden and parking area.
The restaurant has two dining rooms: the biggest one is named "La Grande" and it has a tipycal round fire-place called "fogolar-furlàn" in the center. In the summer Guests can eat in the garden outside and enjoy a wonderful view.
The restaurant is proud of its regional and national cuisine. The restaurant offers a wide choice of regional wines which match every kind of food.
The Rooms
The hotel is very comfortable with sixteen large double rooms and a Junior suite with balcony.
The rooms, all with a view, are quiet and immersed in the garden surrounding the castle. All the rooms are stylish and simple, each with its own style of furnishing that distinguishes and characterises it. They are all equipped with the most modern comfort.
Some rooms on the first floor of the hotel and all the facilities on the ground floor, besides the restaurant, can be easily accessed by guests with disabilities or reduced mobility.
An ample internal parking area is available for all guests.
The Restaurant
The restaurant is on the ground floor of the castle where there is also a bar and lounge as well as the offices and reception.
The main dining room is located to the west where there is a panoramic and extremely fascinating view of the north-east valley of Friuli, the surrounding hills up to the peak of the eastern Alps. It has four external entrances - old entrances to the Jesuit cells - that connect it to the panoramic terrace where, in good weather, the catering service is extended to tables outside. It is characterised by its classical internal brick decor, a typical Friulan "fogolar" (fireplace) and its rare "scus" (dried maize leaves) chairs. It caters for about 60 to 100 places.
A small room furnished in a different style, located to the east with a view towards the historical centre of Cividale, is characterised by an ancient marble holy water stoup and the original sign bearing the old name of the road that led to the castle.
It is ideal for special occasions with a limited number of guests; it can cover from 20 to 50 places.
The same room is also appropriate for gatherings and small meetings. It has two separate entrances. Any equipment and audiovisual support can be supplied on hire. The room is also air conditioned.
The cuisine and the wines
The cuisine is typically seasonal. The à la carte menu is ample and the sea or earth flavours and suggestions range from the traditional Friulan cuisine to the creativity of the Chef, who has managed to interpret and review traditional national and local recipes.
The wine list is mainly based on labels from the most renowned Friulan wineries. Over one hundred wines from the Colli Orientali del Friuli and Collio areas are selected to accompany the succulent culinary offer.
There is also a wide selection of grappa from the best local distilleries.
Weddings
The typical spirit of wedding banquets during any season breaks the silence that marks the Locanda al Castello.
The environment is particularly suitable for wedding receptions and the cuisine and table service stand out for their quality and care. The limited size of the dining rooms allows for ceremonies of up to a maximum of one hundred people with the tables arranged in traditional layouts.
